    Willow Weaving

Join Leilah for one of her very popular morning workshops and discover the traditional craft of willow weaving. Ideal for beginners, this hands-on session will guide you through the process of creating a small willow harvesting basket with a handle.

As you weave, you will learn a range of traditional basketry techniques and gain an insight into working with this versatile natural material. By the end of the workshop, you will have completed your own willow harvesting basket to take home and enjoy for years to come.

Please note: This workshop involves manipulating willow for extended periods, so a reasonable level of hand strength and finger dexterity is recommended.

Tutor: Leilah Vyner
Leilah is a willow artist, basketmaker and QEST Scholar with over 20 years’ experience working with willow. Inspired by traditional basketry and heritage crafts, she has studied a wide range of weaving techniques and now creates both functional pieces and large-scale willow sculptures.
Alongside exhibiting her work and undertaking commissions in the UK and internationally, Leilah enjoys sharing her knowledge through workshops and demonstrations. Her teaching blends traditional skills with contemporary creativity, encouraging others to discover willow's versatility and beauty.

Location: Bramall Learning Centre
Please arrive 15 minutes before the workshop starts to allow time to register at the Main Entrance and make your way to the classroom.

Catering:
  • Tea and coffee will be available throughout.
  • Drinking water is available, and we suggest using a reusable water bottle.
  • You are welcome to bring your own lunch or purchase food and drinks from RHS Harrogate Arms or Bettys. Both are just a short walk away, but can be busy at lunchtime, so you may wish to purchase food before the course begins. Full details can be found here.

For this workshop you will need:
  • Your booking reference
  • A pen/pencil and notebook for notes
  • Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for practical work. Loose or baggy clothing may catch on the willow, and because the workshop is quite active, we recommend dressing in layers.
  • All tools and materials will be provided
