    Willow weaving

Weave a hanging basket ready to plant. Spend a few hours getting creative weaving a willow hanging basket out of fresh willows. Learn and use a simple traditional ‘Rand’ weave on a metal frame, choosing a selection of willow varieties and colours to design a unique hanging basket that is beautiful for hanging up on display, whether packed with flowers or in its own right.

By the end of the morning, your hanging baskets will be finished with a liner ready to be filled with spring and summer flowers. You may wish to couple this workshop with Hanging Baskets Plants and Planting from 2pm–4.30pm to learn more about how to plant up your hanging basket for a long season of summer colour.

Jane Fletcher has been exploring possibilities with willow for 20 years, running workshops and establishing a nursery, Really Useful Plants, in Starcross, Devon. Among other things, they specialise in growing willow species as ornamental and wildlife plants as well as for hedging, sculpture, basketry, floristry and craft purposes.

Jane has a Foundation Degree in Environmental Art and Rural Crafts, with a background in facilitation and supportive roles as a Rural Skills Tutor, and Therapeutic Conservation and Horticulture support worker. She is passionate about traditional crafts and nature connections and is keen to engage others with the joy of working with willow.
