Model Gardens

Nestled to the west of the Formal Garden are three domestic-sized model gardens, around 30m x 10m (100ft x 30ft) each. Although they have different themes, they are intended to be viewed initially as a whole, as they all share a central lawn.

The AGM Garden

This area is a showcase for shade-loving plants with the RHS Award of Garden Merit. The AGM award indicates that a plant is recommended by the RHS, helping gardeners make informed choices about the plants they wish to use in their own gardens.

More about the AGM

West Country Town Garden

Created with a terraced town house in mind by Cambridge-based landscape designer Lisa Camps, this area consists of a central path flanked by informal plantings. Special features include a bubbling water feature and a granite sundial.

Terrace Garden

The design of this area is based on straight lines and strong angles. A lively, wall-mounted outflow of water contrasts with a calm pool, and bold plantings echo the strong design.

Summer Highlights

The Model Gardens give our visitors a chance to get inspiration for improvements and alterations by seeing plants in a setting and scale more relevant to their own gardens. Each of the gardens has the hard landscaping and seating areas too, from which the spectacular planting schemes can be enjoyed. Two of the three model gardens have water features adding a further dimension and interest.
