- A restrained and subdued colour palette of purple, green and cream planting at one side of the garden gives way to lighter and brighter moments with the introduction of soft orange and pale rust flowering plants
- Clipped balls of Taxus baccata punctuate the planting. Around them pines, soft grasses, ferns, purple-leaved Heuchera are a foil to purple Agapanthus 'Dark Night', Salvia, Astrantia and daylilies
About the garden
Macmillan Legacy Garden represents the expert care given by Macmillan Cancer Support to people living with cancer.
The twisting pathway through the garden’s centre and across a reflective pool, symbolically illustrates how Macmillan provides support through the often confusing and painful journey of a cancer diagnosis. Three large sculptural monoliths represent how one third of Macmillan’s income comes from gifts in wills. Plants and surfaces are initially sharp, jagged, dark and brooding, becoming more vibrant then calming around the seating area.
A Legacy Tree at the front of the garden is there to encourage visitors to hang written messages within its branches about their legacy.
