In more detail
- Multistemmed snake-bark maples Acer capillipes and copper beech hedging provide strong structure and a beautiful backdrop to the diaphanous planting
- Scaffold-board furniture and recycled foam cushions provide seating, while carbon-negative hempcrete walls with coping made from recycled building rubble mean this is truly a 'green' garden
About the garden
David Attenborough said: “It's surely our responsibility to do everything within our power to create a planet that provides a home not just for us, but for all life on Earth.”
This is a garden created with a low carbon footprint. Earth brick walls replace concrete blocks and the design is mindfully minimal to ensure wildlife is catered for and plants dominate the space. It challenges us to pare back our materialistic desires and live in closer harmony with nature.
The planting offers a wealth of wildly different shapes and textures. In the front garden, there are bold blocks of white, silver, purple, burnt orange and pink blooms, while in the Garden Room a simplified planting palette allows the presence of a beautiful multi-stem tree to take centre stage.
