With gardening, horticulture and education firmly at the heart of what we do, the Absolute Beginners series of workshops has been designed and developed by the RHS for anyone who is new to gardening and keen to learn more.

The key to successful planting is the growing media that you are planting into, which often contains a mixture of soil and compost. But what exactly is compost and why is it so good? During this workshops you will come to understand why compost is beneficial. You will learn how to make different types of compost and come to appreciate the benefits and uses of home made compost.

These workshops will be taught by Ian Smith, RHS Garden Advisor, who brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience to ensure that you leave the session feeling more confident at gardening and with skills that you can go home and put into practice straight away.

Please bring with you:
  • Your booking reference number
  • A notebook and pencil to make notes
  • Camera (or mobile phone for photos)

All materials provided. Tea/coffee included.

Tutor: Ian Smith
