Royal Porcelain Works Ltd: The Collectors Garden

Show Gardens

Did you know...

  • A calming space that balances immaculate hard landscaping with plenty of strong planting – a range of shrubs, trees, bulbs and low growing herbaceous perennials brings strong mid-spring colour
  • The dominant stone wall at the back of the space frames the pool and provides a textural contrast to the plants, but the open window allows a borrowed view to the Malvern Hills beyond
  • The art of good design considers both the vertical and horizontal pane, and by allowing both hard and soft elements enough space to co-exist, a successful living space - with plenty of room to move around - is created

About the Garden

This is a collector’s garden, exhibiting a range of plants collected by Victorian plant hunters and introduced to UK gardens. Alongside these now familiar plants are new and unusual selections introduced to Britain by today’s plant hunters.

Five stone ‘exhibition’ plinths are arranged through the garden. Two carry bespoke terrariums based on the Wardian Case, and three house historic porcelain pieces beneath glass bell jars, surrounded by flowers and foliage including plants that inspired the artists who hand painted the Royal Worcester pieces.

Planting from this garden will be relocated to the central courtyard of the Royal Porcelain Works, which has been designed to link the existing Museum of Royal Worcester with the newly renovated Henry Sandon Hall.
