Did you know...
- An evocation of a sun-scorched Portuguese hillside, complete with gnarled olive and pomegranate trees. Pygmy goats roam the central area, where the planting is awash with colourful pelargoniums, sages, echiums and bottlebrushes (Callistemon) with spiky yuccas adding contrast
- The garden is designed to evoke a slow-pace smallholding in rural Portugal, where a goat herder spotted an opportunity within the boundaries of his land. A cave, complete with natural spring alongside an old olive tree, has become part of the area’s character
About the Garden
What could be more perfect as a place to manage his goats as they graze? The herder has enhanced the cave to offer a cool shelter and place to store some essential equipment. The herder’s wife enjoys gardening and never misses an opportunity to add a plant here and there. Over the years, shrubs, herbs, aromatics and fruit trees have been added around the goat paddock and the old man’s cave.
