Hestercombe provides a fantastic place to live for a wide and varied assortment of native animals. Look out for roe deer, common lizards and bats including horseshoe, pipistrelle and brown long-eared, which the garden encourages through planting a mixture of native shrubs and broadleaf tree. Be sure to pick up the wildlife spotting sheet when you visit.
Lose yourself in the beauty of Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens, where ancient woodlands, seven serene lakes, and incredible wildlife await. Spot a rare wallaby colony, more than 100 free-roaming deer, and colourful birds like kingfishers and mandarin ducks. A perfect spot for nature lovers.
Alongside its walled garden, famous snowdrop walks and resident pigs, Cambo is introducing new planting for wildlife in 2025 and children will enjoy trying to find bugs and small creatures in the Lost Elf Village. If they look hard enough they may even spot the mythical wildlife creatures Glingbob or Tootflits.
Home to a menagerie of animals and birds in the 18th century including a buffalo, kangaroo, and even an American bear and emu, today you are more likely to spot fallow and red deer among other native British animals, birds and insects at Wentworth Garden Centre if you keep your eyes peeled. There’s even a Jungle Explorer Trail for children during February half term.
Natural Surroundings’ mission is to champion wildlife and promote wildlife-friendly gardening. Set in north Norfolk, it boasts a huge diversity of plants and wildlife to delight and inspire visitors. In February, wild daffodils blanket the ground beneath lime trees, following snowdrops and aconites – providing vital early nectar for emerging insects. Keep an eye out for the resident harvest mice in their special wooden chalet.
