RHS Garden Bridgewater will be opening its gates on Tuesday 18 May. The 154-acre garden in Salford, Greater Manchester, is the biggest hands-on horticultural project undertaken in Europe since planning permission was granted in 2017.
From increasing biodiversity to managing water, sustainability and caring for the landscape are key to what we do at RHS Garden Bridgewater.
We are delighted to announce the receipt of a £1.8 million gift from retired Hong Kong businessman and philanthropist Dr Lee Kai Hung DL to RHS Garden Bridgewater. The generous donation comes as we begin the six-month countdown to the grand opening of the garden on 11 May 2021.
The beautiful borders in the Paradise Garden are a real stand-out feature, glowing in the autumn light, a soothing sight for the Bridgewater team working in the garden.
Designer, Katie Irwin and the team installed seven mulberry trees in a central circle. The trees will form a canopy that community gardeners can sit under, giving them a striking place to meet in the garden.
The scaffolding around Garden Cottage, with its distinctive angular roof, has now been removed from our Orchard Garden. Glimpses of this gothic style building, home to Worsley New Hall's Head Gardeners from 1834, will be enjoyed across the water in the Paradise Garden.
Horticulturist & Community Grow Space designer, Katie Irwin shares her ideas about the Community Grow Garden we’re building at Bridgewater. The space will be a fantastic place for community groups to learn new skills and get their hands in the soil.
The garden is now full of glorious flowers that include the stunning Helenium ‘Moerheim Beauty’. These tall blooms are beautiful in shades of copper and burnt orange.
Our contractors, BAM Construct UK, handed over the keys to our new Welcome Building. This stunning building, designed by Hodder + Partners, will house our Plant Centre, shop and café. Future visitors will be able to enjoy glorious views over Worsley Water and Victoria Meadow.
The Worsley Welcome Garden filled up nicely with new planting and contemporary pergolas. This beautiful space will provide the perfect start to your Bridgewater journey when the garden opens next year.
The spectacular 70m2 Lily Pond and individual planting beds surrounding it took shape in early spring. The distinctive Victorian-style glasshouses, called the Fruit House and Mediterranean House, were built along the south-facing wall, ready to grow tender seasonal plants in future months.
Plant deliveries were arriving thick and fast as the team prepared for the next phase of scheduled planting. Despite the bitterly cold weather and storms the team battled on to plant up beds in the Weston Walled Garden.
