The RHS work-based training programmes provide learners with a unique pathway to turn their passion for plants into a successful career in horticulture.

Each year students and apprentices train at RHS Gardens, gaining practical understanding, knowledge, and skills. Delivered by RHS experts, these programmes offer hands-on experience with the seasonal work involved in various horticultural disciplines.

This training serves as the foundation for a lifelong career in horticulture, with many learners advancing to roles in gardens across the country, including RHS Gardens.

In the coming years, the focus will be on expanding the RHS Education programme. With your support, more young people and career changers can be given the opportunity to pursue their passion for plants.

With the horticultural industry facing a skills shortage and a shortfall of training opportunities for young people, this is more important than ever.

Together, it is possible to equip young people with the skills, opportunities, and inspiration needed to pursue a successful career in horticulture.

Support New Shoots

Your donation will help cultivate a greener tomorrow with the creation of Greener Skills Gardens:

Learning greener skills such as potting on houseplants

Help plant the seeds of a greener future by supporting the New Shoots Greener Skills Gardens. These inspiring new spaces at RHS Gardens Harlow Carr in North Yorkshire, Hyde Hall in Essex and Rosemoor in Devon will provide hands-on learning experiences for people of all backgrounds – helping to close the green skills gap and grow the next generation of horticulturists. With your support, these gardens will become vibrant hubs where communities can connect, learn and thrive – ensuring green spaces continue to flourish for decades to come.

Support workshops for school children

Your donation could help inspire even more children to love nature and protect the environment for the future:

RHS Gardens run a busy programme of free workshops designed to engage school children with the natural world, helping them grow their skills and confidence.

Each year, the aim is to inspire more than 40,000 school children through workshops and visits to RHS Gardens and learning centres. Your support is essential to make this happen.
