The Planting for the Planet exhibition at RHS Garden Bridgewater celebrates our communities contributions to taking climate action by greening Greater Manchester and demonstrates the importance of plants and nature in creating resilient, healthy and beautiful spaces for people and the planet to coexist.

Young people have been integral to raising the profile of the climate emergency and creating positive action, which is why RHS Communities teamed up with Socially Engaged Photographer-in-Residence for the University of Salford Art Collection, Gwen Riley Jones, and youth environment charity Action for Conservation to create two pieces of artwork displayed in the exhibition.

A range of plant-based methods of photography were used, and the images in exhibition are anthotypes, a method of creating photographs using nothing but juice extracted from spinach leaves. Their creations demonstrate the essential relationship between people and plants to create climate resilient communities.
