The Macmillan Legacy Garden: Gift the Future tells the story of how a gift in your will today can help look after people in the future. More than one third of Macmillan Cancer Support’s income comes from gifts in wills – income that ensures Macmillan can continue its vital work in our communities. This garden celebrates the incredible kindness of ordinary people who, in leaving a gift in their will, gift a future of hope for those living with cancer.
The garden is formal and symmetrical, with paved walkways around a rill and planted borders. Four trees at the back of the garden add height and provide shade. Water travels via a rill between two ponds in the centre of the scheme, linking terraces on different levels.
Generously planted borders offer a home for wildlife. The summer woodland planting includes Solomon’s seal, deciduous ferns, Euphorbia amygdaloides var. robbiae and dwarf lady’s mantle. Towards the front of the planting, summer perennials include Salvia nemorosa ‘Caradonna’, Agastache ‘Blackadder’, Geranium phaeum ‘Raven’ and Oenothera lindheimeri ‘Whirling Butterflies’.
