Killik & Co: ‘Money Doesn't Grow On Trees’ Garden

Sanctuary Gardens

The Killik & Co garden is a scented, immersive haven in which to relax and unwind. The design creates a supportive environment for families to talk and spend time together over a lifetime.

A path of limestone and oak pavers winds through the garden and is wide enough to encourage conversation while walking together.  It leads to a central water well that is fed by an aqueduct running along the top of a limestone and steel pergola that shelters a communal dining area, perfect for family gatherings.

At a glance:

Who is this garden for?
A family garden.
Where is the garden set?
England.
Who or what is the design inspiration?
Taking away the stress associated with managing finances.

An area cushioned between beds of fragrant planting hosts two reclining seats for relaxed conversation, and offers a different perspective through the garden.

Oak planters with built-in seating punctuate the space, and are filled with scented flowers and foliage. The colour palette – specifically chosen for its calming properties – has soft whites, pale lemons and pops of lavender and purple.

Key sustainability points

  • Reclaimed or recycled materials used where possible, for example reclaimed oak cobbles, and reclaimed blocks for internal wall structures.
  • No cement is being used at all on the garden and no unnecessary timber.
  • The planting has been chosen to be resilient in environments with less water, and hotter and dryer seasons. They are planted into gravel, and beds will be mulched over to help retain moisture.

Repurposing

Many of the smaller plants are being rehoused at houses of Killik & Co. The trees are being returned to Landform HQ for a new project and the hard landscaping materials are being used in a schools project.
