Check out the family activities that were on offer at the Malvern Spring Show 2017 plus children under 16 got in free

There were plenty of features to keep everyone happy - plus, children under 16 got free entry to RHS Malvern Spring Festival on all four days.

Exploration Zone - an area especially for budding gardeners and horticulturists, with hands-on activities to help children learn and explore the world of plants and gardens.

Visitors coud step nside our Planetarium and be transported to space, with daily talks including Great Planet Adventures, Back to Moon and We Are Aliens.

School Garden Challenge - This year's design theme was Space, with 13 schools taking part.

Chris Collins Workshops - BBC Blue Peter Gardener, Chris Collins, was on hand to offer advice in planting workshops which will run throughout the weekend.

Saturday 13 May

  • The Greedy Goat by Petr Horacek - Czech illustrator Petr Horáček is the author of The Greedy Goat. He took part in storytelling and brought his characters to life with a live drawing session.
  • The Anti-Boredom Book of Brilliant Outdoor Things to Do by Andy Seed - a chance to discover the amazing fun you can have outdoors with plenty of interactive family fun. Based on this book of outdoor things to do, including true stories, practical challenges and games such as sock golf.


Sunday 14 May

  • Grumpy Frog with Ed Vere - why is Grumpy Frog so grumpy? Our young showgoers found out when bestselling author Ed Vere read his latest book and taught them how to draw a very grumpy frog.
  • The Big Bird Spot with Matt Sewell - Matt helped visitors find about new bird species, names and stories, and learn how to draw their markings at Matt Sewell's Spotting & Jotting Club. They created their own bird book with the best-selling author as he launched his first book specifically for children, The Big Bird Spot.
  • Shifty McGifty with Tracey Corderoy - Author Tracey Corderoy took part in thiis interactive event where you could meet Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam, a pair of robber dogs who swap their lives of crime for a career in cupcakes, and solve wacky mysteries along the way.

More to do

  • Children got hands on with a host of different herbs as they explored the herb hut in the Health and Wellbeing Garden with hosts Pathways Day Service.
  • Family entertainment with Mr Alexander who returned with his spectacular one-man show, reminiscent of vintage variety shows.
