Cotoneaster for hedges, wall shrubs and banks

Many cotoneaster are suitable for training as wall shrubs or hedges, providing a long season of interest with flowers and fruit. Evergreen cultivars will provide year-round screening. This list will help you decide which plant is right for your garden.

Cotoneaster for hedges

These evergeens make hedges with a looser informal appearance that have flowers and berries perfect for wildlife. Find more information about planting and training hedges with the RHS Guide to growing hedges here.

Cotoneaster for wall shrubs

With overlapping arching branches, these shrubs are ideal trained against fences and buildings. For more information about growing wall shrubs see the RHS Guide here.

Cotoneaster for terraces, banks and covering low structures

These ground-hugging cultivars spread horizontally, and are ideal for concealing unsightly areas, to stabilise banks, or cascading down terraces. For more information on how to grow these, see the RHS Guide to growing shrubs here
