Soft play area at the Glasshouse Kitchen

Ideal for little ones to let off steam, whatever the weather! Please note, the soft play area is suitable for unders 5s only and children must be supervised at all times. Please wear socks.

In wet weather you can...

  • Get hands on with interactive and educational exhibits in the atrium at RHS Hilltop
  • Find the largest plant in The Glasshouse and peer through the waterfall
  • Enjoy exciting story time sessions in Hilltop Live
  • Browse the children’s section of the Garden Centre for fun books and gardening goodies
  • Discover a rainbow of colourful and dainty plants in the Alpine Display House

All year round you can...

  • Discover ‘Jurassic corner’ and Theresa the T-rex in the Stumpery and the Dell on Battleston Hill
  • Search for RHS Wisley’s tallest tree in the Pinetum
  • Look out for sculptures. Can you find the bear, hippo, giant horse head and frog?
  • Spot feathered friends from the bird hides in the Wildlife Garden and Howard’s Field
  • Wind your way up the Viewing Mount and see the garden from a different view

Events for families

Discover a host of family-friendly events throughout the year, including our flower shows, craft fairs and festive RHS Glow illuminations. The school holidays are packed with activities for children too, from discovery trails to performances and craft and planting workshops.

Places to eat and picnics

We have a tempting range of food and drink for all appetites and ages, including hot and cold kid’s meals in the Food Hall and freshly baked pizzas in the Glasshouse Kitchen.

We welcome picnics, with the best places to set down your rug in Seven Acres, the Pinetum, Jubilee Arboretum and between the Bowes-Lyon Rose Garden and RHS Hilltop. We also have picnic tables and benches in the Pinetum.

Useful things to know

  • Car parking is free, with accessible parking spaces in car park 2 and family parking spaces in car park 1
  • Baby changing facilities are provided in all toilet areas, and Changing Places facilities are provided in the Welcome building and RHS Hilltop
  • Pushchair and wheelchair accessible routes are marked on garden maps

  • Water fountains to refill bottles are located in the Welcome building, Food Hall and Glasshouse Kitchen
  • We are sorry but garden toys, such as scooters and balls, are not permitted in the garden
