Home-education visits at RHS Garden Bridgewater

Bring your children for an educational workshop in our learning studio and garden

Home educated children are invited to take part in one free workshop per academic year on our special Home Educator Days.

Our exciting, free workshops offer hands-on sessions for home-educated children from 4 to 11 years. Through interactive learning, our workshops explore a range of topics from how plants grow, to where our food comes from, to how plants can help us look after the planet.

How to book a place on a home educator workshop

Follow the booking link to reserve your place. You will receive an automatic booking confirmation including a reference number which you will need to have with you on the day of your workshop.

On the day

  • Your workshop will begin at either 10:30 am or 1pm, as stated in your confirmation email, and will last approximately 90 minutes
  • On arrival, please book in with a member of our Visitor Services Team in the Welcome Building, showing your booking reference number. You will then be directed to where you will need to wait in readiness for your workshop. If you have booked an afternoon workshop session and are already in the Garden, please ensure you are back at the Welcome Building no more than 15 minutes before the workshop is due to start
  • Attendees who are more than 10 minutes late to the session will not be admitted to the learning session or garden
  • All children must be accompanied by an adult (this is limited to one adult per child, per workshop)
  • Each child attending a workshop and their accompanying adult may enjoy entry to the Garden, when not in their booked workshop, as part of their day
  • Workshops are tailored to children of a specific age range. Other children and siblings who do not fulfil the age requirement will not be permitted
  • Home educated children are entitled to take part in one pre-booked educational workshop per year

What to Bring

  • Weather appropriate clothing
  • Boots or wellies for exploring the woodland
  • Lunch and refreshments (if required) to be eaten in the Garden. Picnic tables are located in the Orchard and Woodland Play area. Please don’t eat during the workshop

Golden Rules of the Garden

  • Respect our plants, this means no picking, trampling or climbing
  • Do not put anything from the Garden in your mouth
  • Take your rubbish home
  • x1 grown up is to stay with their family group
  • The behaviour of the children is the responsibility of the accompanying adult

All pre-booked educational visits are free of charge. If you feel able to give a donation to the RHS to help support our educational work this would be much appreciated; we ask you to consider a donation of £3 per child for your visit.

If you are operating as a Home School Group of 16 students or more and have Public Liability Insurance, then you are welcome to book one of our guided or self-guided school visits, which take place during term-time.
