In the summer of 1928, 24-year-old horticulture student Loyal Johnson and his friend Sam Brewster embarked on an epic cycling journey. In just three months, they cycled almost 1,500 miles, battling wind, rain and insect bites, to visit more than 80 gardens across the UK. Most excitingly, Loyal Johnson wrote it all down.

Discover their unforgettable story in our new online exhibition: The Bicycle Boys: An Unforgettable Garden Tour.

Bicycle Boys features contributions from volunteers from County Gardens Trusts across the country. They have brought Loyal and Sam's story to life, researching a selection of the gardens they visited and exploring how they have changed today.

The project forms part of the Gardens Trust’s Unforgettable Gardens campaign to raise awareness of the value of local parks and gardens and the importance of protecting them for our future.
