    Houseplants

Our fascination with indoor gardening is centuries old. We use plants to decorate and delight, to improve our homes and also our health. From the fern craze of the 19th century to the succulents of the swinging sixties, as conditions and tastes have changed, so our repertoire of plants has expanded and our love for them has grown.

In celebration of the humble houseplant, this exhibition at the RHS Lindley Library presents a series of designs by students from Central Saint Martins college. In a collaborative project with the library, the students have investigated a variety of well-known and well-loved houseplants and created made to measure pots to suit their individual needs. The ceramic designs and accompanying displays explore both the characteristics that make these plants perfectly suited to the home environment, and the striking aesthetic qualities that ensure their continued popularity among indoor gardening enthusiasts.
