RHS Healer’s Hollow

Feature Garden

RHS Feature Garden ‘Healer’s Hollow’ is an enchanting exploration of the history of our human connection to plants and the benefits they bring to our health and wellbeing. We are all familiar with using plants to create beautiful gardens and we know they provide us with food, but we also have a much deeper need for plants. From the very existence of complex plant ecosystems to the foundations for much of our modern medicine - humans simply wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for plants.

The garden will showcase the modern trend to return to this close relationship with nature and understand the necessity of plants as part of our living experience - to nurture support and protect our health. Importantly, it will remind us of how we can find the balance of gently capturing the healing essence of plants, while respecting their place and history in nature.

At a glance:

Who would use this garden?
Those who have an interest in herbalism, love wildlife, want to use native trees in their garden and those who love learning more about plants we often come across.
Where is the garden set?
The garden is set in a British native woodland.

Garden legacy

The garden will be relocated to Farncombe Community Garden near Godalming, which is thriving thanks to an expanding group of local volunteers. The idea came from GPs at the nearby practice who wanted to encourage patients and the community at large to interact with nature and each other to benefit their physical and mental health. Their vision is encompassed in the phrase ‘growing community wellbeing’.
