My Name'5 Doddie Garden

This garden has been designed to represent, celebrate and commemorate Doddie Weir, the iconic Scotland rugby international who, following his own diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease, committed himself to helping fellow sufferers and fund research into this, as yet, incurable disease.

The colours and shapes of Doddie’s own private tartan are echoed throughout the space, and the garden also draws from the game that was Doddie’s career, and his passion. Glass sculptures represent players in a lineout and rugby goal posts, while a water feature is based on the tartan flower brooch used by the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. The number 5 – his shirt number and position in the sport – is also referenced multiple times within the scheme.

Suitable for wheelchair users, the garden provides access to a space that allows families to spend time together and enjoy time away from thinking about the effects that MND has on a loved one, and will be used in this way following the garden’s relocation after the Show.

• All materials will be re-used in the rebuild.
