Key plants in The Grant Horticulture Arts & Crafts Garden

The colour palette is based around biscuit, oat, and plum tones which contrast well with the deep greens of yew and hawthorn foliage

Achillea ‘Terracotta’

Achillea ‘Terracotta’

The biscuit tones of this wonderful umbel shaped flower head create height and pops of colour throughout the garden, and look fantastic nestled in around ornamental grasses to create structure and movement in the border.

Deschampsia cespitosa ‘Bronzeschleier’

Provides a good foil for pops of pastel and other slightly biscuit and earthy toned plants. It is chosen for its graceful habit, oaty tones, and movement when caught by the wind.

Eryngium x zabelii ‘Neptune’s Gold’

Eryngium x zabelii ‘Neptune’s Gold’

A beautiful variety of Eryngium which boasts almost lime coloured basal leaves and rosettes, which contrast wonderfully with the purple tones of the stems and flower heads. This plant works well planted in clumps for impact within the border.

Lavandula angustifolia ‘Hidcote’

A staple of the Arts & Crafts garden and used here to line the sandstone pathways to provide height and scent when brushed against.

Taxus baccata

Taxus baccata

The deep evergreen tones of yew used in formal topiary shapes act as a counterpoint to the looser planting elsewhere within the quadrant borders, and provide important visual anchoring. The evergreen clipped shapes provide year-round interest and structure once other plants have gone to ground.
