It is 60 years since the renowned landscape architect, Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe, created his roof garden at Guildford. The garden was inspired by the first sputnik launch. The garden aims to bring heaven and earth together. The pond reflects the skies above. Stepping stones, representing the planets and leading to the galaxy, appear to float over the water, and lead to a backdrop of stars forming the plough constellation.
The planting combines ornamental grasses and perennials in pastel shades. Ornamental trees and shrubs appear to form the upper stratosphere.
