Key plants in the World Child Cancer’s Nurturing Garden

The following have been selected to create a serene, protective and soft setting by using trees and shrubs

Sorbus aria ‘Lutescens’

Silvery white trees with downy young foliage that will look striking in the Spring and develop into grey-green rounded larger leaves with pale undersides. Clusters of white flowers will appear in April-May and are followed by orange-red berries in the Autumn that will attract birds and other wildlife.

Eleagnus commutata

Chosen for its intensely silver foliage which has multiple seasons of interest and is easy to maintain.

Cotinus coggygria

Captivating woolly-looking plumes with smooth green leaves that change to purple and blushed red in the Autumn. Whilst delicate looking, it is interesting, yet hardy so ideal for the lower beds.

Allium ‘Summer drummer’

The ornamental types are a great addition to the garden with their showy flowerheads in shades of blue, purple, white and pink, bringing globes of colour in spring and early summer. They are good cut flowers and the dried flowerheads give a long lasting display.

Cynara cardunculus

One of the many flowers that are part of the terracotta raised beds which have been chosen for their sensory playfulness, colour and scent.
