A deciduous shrub to 4m high with long, linear green leaves with irregularly scalloped edges, giving a feathery appearance. Tiny star-shaped white flowers are produced in clusters in the leaf axils in spring. Leaves turn golden yellow in autumn.

Bushy, upright perennial about 1m in height, with reddish stems bearing small, 3-lobed bronze-green leaves and open sprays of starry white flowers 3-4cm in width, with contrasting red calyces, from late spring to late summer.
Delicately cut lace like leaves and fragrant creamy umbel flowerheads (senses sight, touch, smell).
Scabiosa can be annuals, biennials or herbaceous or evergreen perennials, with simple or pinnately lobed leaves and characteristic flower-heads with enlarged outer florets.
