Meet the designer of The ADHD Foundation Garden in the All About Plants category at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025

After leaving school, Katy began her career in the art world, studying at Christie’s Education and beginning work at Bonhams Auctioneers. She then joined her family’s business in men’s silk neck wear and later transitioned into the digital media industry which took her to Sydney, Australia. During her time in Australia, Katy developed a deep appreciation for the contrasting horticulture of the Southern Hemisphere. After being made redundant, she had an opportunity to pursue a career where her passions lay in plants and design and enrolled in a course in New South Wales, graduating in Garden Design.
Katy founded Good Grounding Garden Design in 2003, where she offers private clients inspiring outdoor solutions that incorporate sustainable materials, whilst respecting the ecological balance of each site and providing habitats for wildlife. Central to all of Katy’s designs is placing architecture in its rightful context, capturing the essence or ‘spirit’ of a garden, with the ultimate goal of encouraging her clients to connect to nature by spend more time outdoors.

Katy says: “I’ve been to nearly 20 years of RHS Chelsea Flower Show, it inspires and fascinates me, the level of design integrity and plantmanship is of the highest standards. After being diagnosed with ADHD in 2023, my own neurodiverse journey has just begun. It’s been fascinating to discover the aspects of my character that have led me to consider the world through a different lens. This perspective helps build on my strengths. I find it easy to walk into a space and see how it could be transformed; I find it harder not to get carried away or overwhelmed by ideas.
“This Garden celebrates the rich tapestry of both plant diversity and human individuality. In doing so, it mirrors the splendid complexity of different human minds, which should be celebrated and marvelled at in the same way that every plant is unique.”
The ADHD Foundation Garden sponsored by Project Giving Back will be Katy Terry’s first Garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
