Meet the designers of the The Avanade ‘Intelligent’ Garden in the Show category at RHS Chelsea 2025
Following on from the success of the WaterAid Garden collaboration, Tom and Je were approached by Avanade. Both designers were excited by the brief and the opportunity to explore how AI and technology can empower tree caretakers and communities with data-driven insights to support trees’ growth and resilience over time, particularly in the face of the climate crisis.
Tom Massey & Je Ahn
Tom Massey was inspired to pursue a career in horticulture by his love of nature and a deep commitment to environmental sustainability. Early experiences with gardening and landscapes, coupled with a desire to address climate change, led him to landscape design. After formal studies in garden design, Massey focused his career on creating innovative and ecologically responsible landscapes. Massey’s design style is bold, eclectic, and immersive, characterised by dynamic planting schemes, the use of natural materials, and a strong ecological focus. His work through Tom Massey Studio explores the connection between people and nature, promoting biodiversity and resilience while delivering visually striking gardens.
Je Ahn, founder of Studio Weave, draws deep inspiration from nature in his architecture and design work. His practice seeks to harmonise the built environment with natural landscapes, incorporating organic forms, sustainable materials, and ecological principles. Ahn views nature as a central source of creativity, drawing on its patterns and processes to inform his designs. His projects often emphasise the balance between human spaces and the natural world, fostering a connection to the environment. Ahn integrates green spaces, natural light, and fluid, organic shapes to reflect nature’s forms, blending function with sustainability and beauty.
See The Avanade ‘Intelligent’ Garden
Tom and Je exhibited the WaterAid Garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024 last year, winning a gold medal for the Project Giving Back supported garden. They are currently in the process of relocating the garden to the National Trust Castlefield Viaduct in Manchester, where it will be open to the public. Tom and Je are also working on a number of climate adapted pocket parks in and around London, as well as recently being shortlisted to design a new arrival space for the British Museum.
Following on from the success of the WaterAid Garden collaboration, Tom and Je were approached by Avanade. The opportunity to explore how AI can be integrated into sustainable landscape management was too exciting and interesting to pass up.
