Education applications

Help inspire and educate visitors through interactive displays about horticulture and related subjects

The shows provide an effective springboard to educate and interact with the show visitors and a chance for you to demonstrate both your aims and messages. Although categories differ slightly from show to show, all of these exhibits are creative and innovative, inspiring visitors and increasing their understanding of horticulture and related subjects.

Educational and Interactive Features should engage, inspire and educate our Festival visitors and should be themed around topics with a strong horticultural link. Applications are also encouraged from professional associations or community groups that are looking to raise awareness or showcase an art or craft.

RHS School Bug Barrels
Applications are now open for 2025

Deadline:
  Monday 3 March 2025

Entries are welcome from all schools and youth groups (up to 16 years) from London, Surrey, and the surrounding area. To be eligible to enter, applicants must be registered with the RHS Campaign for School Gardening. Registration is quick, easy and free. If you're not registered yet, you can do so here.

The theme for this year is Wonderland, a place that is full of exciting, interesting, and wonderful things. We are looking for entries that are playful, creative and stimulate curiosity. Entries will not be formally judged but they are encouraged to be horticulturally correct. For example, if you design your barrel for pollinators, think carefully about the types of wildlife you want to support as this will help you to choose which plants to use. Please take care to only use inspiration from materials that are out of copyright when exploring the theme.

If you have any questions about the School Bug Barrels, please get in touch with the Deputy Show Manager at [email protected]
