There is a good choice of deciduous shrubs (lose their leaves in winter) with plenty of flowers and some with berries suited to training on a shady wall. Some can provide interesting structure even when bare in winter.
Roses will always suit sunny locations best but there are some that are more tolerant of light shade if light levels are good.
If your garden soil is neutral to acidic and you have a shady wall to cover, camellia are ideal for a cool, moist area where their flowers will shine.
