Unlike daffodils, tulips tend to dwindle in number after planting. However, there are some which manage to increase and a selection of these are listed here.
Species tulips and their cultivars will multiply in number year-after-year. They prefer well-drained soil in full sun, with the exeption of Tulipa sprengeri and T. sylvestris which prefer damp soil in part-shade.
If you have well-drained soil, these border tulips can be left in the ground and are more likely to flower reliably each year than other cultivars.
