Objectives and purpose of the trial

The focus of this trial is to assess a range of sweet pepper (Capsicum) cultivars. This is a multi-site trial at RHS Bridgewater, Greater Manchester, RHS Rosemoor, Devon and behind the scenes at RHS Wisley, Surrey. The RHS Trials team aims to compare, record and show the merits of new and established sweet pepper cultivars for garden use and cultivation. Those that perform best will be awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM).

The following factors are all taken into consideration as part of the judging of the trial:

  • Quality
  • Appearance
  • Thickness of flesh

  • Taste – raw
  • Sweetness – Brix test
