Potato, late maincrop trial 2024–2025

Objectives and purpose of the trial

The focus of this trial is to assess a range of late maincrop potato (Solanum tuberosum) cultivars, which are planted in mid-to-late April, for harvesting in late August to October. These plants will been grown to maturity and will produce larger harvests of bigger potatoes, which usually store well – this will be tested at the end of the trial. The RHS Trials team at RHS Wisley, Surrey, aims to compare, record and show the merits of new and established potato cultivars for garden use and cultivation. Those that perform best will be awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
