Geranium (cranesbill) trial 2025–2027

Objectives and purpose of the trial

The purpose of this trial is to showcase a range of hardy herbaceous Geranium (cranesbill) cultivars available to gardeners. Geraniums are an attractive and popular plant that can be long-flowering, and come in a range of forms and colours. A large trial of Geranium took place from 2002–2006 at RHS Wisley, Surrey. Since then, there have been hundreds of new cultivars introduced, with many of these thought to be significant improvements on previous cultivars. This trial will compare, record and display the merits of new additions against established cultivars, as well as identify the correct nomenclature (naming) for the species and cultivars in the trial. Those that perform best will be awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
