Disporum, Disporopsis and Prosartes trial 2025–2028

Objectives and purpose of the trial

The RHS has not trialled Disporum (fairy bells), Disporopsis (Asparagaceae family) and Prosartes (lily family) cultivars before, and there have been a number of new introductions in recent years. These are a range of elegant woodland plants with a variety of flower forms and colours, some of which are followed by ornamental fruits. The RHS Trials team aims to compare, record and display the merits of new and established cultivars and see how they perform side by side in a garden setting at RHS Harlow Carr, North Yorkshire. Those that perform best will be awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM). Currently, only Disporum longistylum ‘Night Heron’ holds an AGM.
