Chaenomeles trial 2022–2025

Objectives and purpose of the trial

The RHS has not trialled Chaenomeles (Japanese quince or Maule’s quince) before, so this is an opportunity to see how different cultivars perform side by side at Witch Hazel Nursery, Kent. The aim is to assess and showcase a range of Chaenomeles plants, which are available for ornamental use and address any naming and taxonomic issues encountered during the trial. Those that perform best will be awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
