A tall, tender palm tree with a sturdy trunk, sometimes swollen around the middle, and arching, pinnate leaves composed of many linear leaflets. Pale yellow flowers are borne in flowerspikes to 1m long in summer; these are followed by orange fruits

How to grow
Cultivation
Under glass, grow in peat-free, loam-based potting compost in bright, filtered light. In growth water freely and apply a balanced liquid fertiliser monthly; water sparingly in winter. Pot on or topdress in spring
