An evergreen, perennial sub-shrub producing stems to 90cm high and 75cm wide, with dark blue-green lance-shaped foliage which emerges purplish-red in spring. Very large, cylindrical heads of bright yellow-green floral bracts with tiny red central flowers appear in late spring and summer
