About the garden
Over the last 30 years, West Green House Gardens, a garden with a 300-year history has been fully restored, bringing its beauty back to life. Ten follies have been rebuilt, including the largest, a striking Nymphaeum that rises from a flight of water rills and stairs, framed by a moon gate and overlooking the old Walled Gardens. The Paradise Garden features a central fountain, while a 190m stretch of blue iris winds beneath five bridges, guiding water to the reformed lake and island in the newly reimagined Lakefield. The majority of the plantings in Lakefield are new, with a natural fritillary field and large swathes of daffodils adding vibrant colour.
The Five Bridges Garden dazzles in spring with 100m of delft blue hyacinths, while the Walled Garden features thousands of tulips. Old roses climb formal gardens and Hampshire walls, with species hydrangeas surrounding a chinoiserie pavilion housing small Pekin chickens. Peony-adorned topiaries frame the wellhead, and a checkerboard garden showcases bold pots and new agapanthus. Two oriental pergolas, framed by maples and peonies, add to the beauty, while fruit cages centre two potagers in the largest Walled Garden, with herbaceous borders in the other half. Spanning 10 acres, the garden offers a peaceful 40-minute stroll, with exhibition glasshouses, a tearoom, and an entry shop.
