About the garden
The gardens around the medieval moated manor were designed to complement its unusual appearance with scented garden, colour themed borders and roses. The Heritage Rose Garden has hundreds of varieties in period settings, but although the garden is known for its rose collection, there are many other plants in the Four Element gardens, orchard, county walk, stump gardens and Sensory garden. The small vegetable area with green houses was reorganised in 2019/20.
The garden has always been planned with wildlife in mind so includes wood walks, lake, wildflower meadow – with a boardwalk leading to a bird hide overlooking water – and an arboretum of native trees. Children can enjoy a nature garden and enchanted trail, as well as a playground. There is also an events programme with art, theatre and music.
