About the garden
Nestled in the hills above Pitlochry Festival Theatre, Explorers Garden is divided into glades representing the distant regions explored by Scottish plant collectors over the past 250 years.
The variety of habitats within the garden reflects the geographic origins of the plants collected and introduced by the Scottish explorers, ranging from Asia to the Americas. Drifts of bright pink and white Primula japonica, two-metre tall Giant Himalayan lilies and, in late spring, over 32 types of Meconopsis come into magnificent bloom.
The tranquil woodland garden also showcases modern sculptures, hosts performances in its amphitheatre and events in the unique pavilion, crafted from Douglas fir in tribute to one of Scotland’s most successful plant hunters, David Douglas.
