About the garden
Voted The Nation’s Favourite Public Garden in 2021, the gardens span 13 beautifully secluded acres, featuring many unusual trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants deisgned to provide year-round interest. A thatched stone summerhouse offers views of a lake, while ancient oak woodland is underplanted with rhododendrons, azaleas and other woodland plants. The Azalea Glade is an enchanting area of the garden.
The more formal Millennium Garden showcases colour-themed planting. The Grasses Garden – created in 2010 to celebrate 50 years since the garden’s establishment – features ornamental grasses waving gently above the sunken path. A profusion of perennials creates a stunning display of pink, blue and purple hues. Visitors can also enjoy a walk through the wildflower meadow, which offers breathtaking views of Devon’s rolling hills.
