About the garden
Andromeda Botanic Gardens, Iris Bannochie’s 1954 masterpiece, takes you on a journey through an ever-changing landscape full of surprises. More than 600 plant species, including over 120 tree species, are wonderfully arranged across a variety of gardens on an eight-acre site near the coastal village of Bathsheba. Mature trees create a sense of permanence, making the garden feel completely natural.
The management team promotes and protects the gardens’ natural and cultural heritage, focusing on biodiversity, community inclusion and promoting Iris Bannochie’s legacy. Visitors can explore the butterfly havens filled with amazing species, including monarchs, buckeyes and fritillaries. The Ethnobotanical Garden celebrates Barbadian plant heritage, and its newest section, The Ground, showcases plants used medicinally by enslaved people in Barbados.
