Lucy Vail shows you how to create beautiful arrangements, using British flowers and foliage that can be foraged in your own garden
During the Covid pandemic, the RHS created Virtual Chelsea, with special content created to replace the cancelled Show. An award-winning Floral Design company, Lucy Vail Floristry specialises in installations and weddings, and private and corporate events. The florists are renowned for their bold use of colour and theatrical flair.
Lucy Vail teaches you how to bring a slice of the British countryside into your home by creating a beautiful arrangement using British flowers and foliage picked from your garden.
Our ethos is to go wild with colour, shape and texture and to experiment as much as possible with seasonal flowers.
Begin with the foliage, which acts as a support and structure for all the lovely blooms. Next place larger blooms into position: generally the larger flowers love to stand out and be noticed so ensure they have the foliage support to do so. Medium-sized blooms are the characterful element of the vase. They add another dimension to arrangements. Finally, small blooms or filler flowers are added to complement the existing stems. They soften the whole arrangement allowing the flowers to sit harmoniously together.
