Level 3 Award in Horticultural Investigation with the RHS

Support your continuing professional development with this stand-alone award that allows you to research and study an area of horticulture of interest to you. 

The RHS Level 3 Award in Horticultural Investigation is offered by the RHS School of Horticulture, who have been training horticulturists for over 200 years.

Frequently asked questions

How long will it take me to achieve?
Students are expected to complete the qualification in nine months but can take longer if necessary.
How many hours do I need to study?
We estimate that this qualification will require a commitment of approximately 2.5 hours per week to achieve, depending on the individual. The GLH are 40 and the TQT hours are 90.
What support will I get?
You will be supported by qualified and experienced horticulturists with a passion for their craft. You’ll receive guidance and support which includes online workshops, 1-2-1s and individual support. You will be expected to undertake self-directed reading, research, and writing up of your project. What are the payment options?
Students can choose between paying the full fee at the time of booking or paying a £400 non-refundable deposit at the time of booking and the remaining £400 a week before the first live session.
What are the entry requirements?
For entry onto the award, and to allow you to get the most out of the programme by drawing on your own
experience, knowledge and skills, you must hold a full Level 2 horticultural qualification and a minimum of three months practical, horticultural experience in a professional environment is required. 

If you don’t hold a full Level 2 horticultural qualification, a minimum of two years practical horticultural
experience in a professional horticultural environment would also be accepted – applicants who don’t hold a full Level 2 must also complete an additional written task before being accepted onto the course.

Once registered for the award you can apply for RHS Student membership for £20 per annum. This gives you automatic membership to the library to help with your study, plus free access to all five RHS Gardens, and discounts to RHS Flower Shows.
