Euonymus verrucosus

warted spindle tree

A deciduous shrub, up to around 3m high, with densely warty bark on the young branches. Leaves are oval, finely toothed and deep green, turning red in autumn. Clusters of small, purple-brown flowers are produced in late spring, sometimes followed by deep pink, four-winged seed cases that split open to reveal glossy black seeds with a bright orange coating
