Join us for a combined Library Talk and Garden Tour: The Hypnotic Hydrangea. The Library talk will be led by one of the Library staff and the Garden Tour will be led by one of the RHS Horticulturalists.
Hypnotic Hydrangeas
Although first cultivated in Japan, ancient hydrangea fossils dating back to 40-65 million years ago have also been discovered in North America. However, Hydrangeas didn’t appear in Europe until 1736 when a colonist brought a North American varietal to England.
Their ongoing popularity stems from the fact that Hydrangeas have always been a favoured architectural and ornamental plant for every style of garden, from bountiful border bushes in cottage gardens, to neat and tidy container plants for urban balconies and come in an amazing array of colours.
After finding out more about the Hydrangea within the Library collection, you have the opportunity to find out even more about some of the different species and cultivars we have growing in the garden.
