Colour Box

A celebration of the way gardeners help each other, coming together to produce something beautiful and colourful

Show Gardens

Did you know...

  • Aimed to be an antidote to the big budgets and plentiful hard landscaping of larger show gardens, this garden is about plants and people
  • It is full of joyful colour clashes from herbaceous perennials and grasses including Imperata cylindrica 'Rubra' and many achilleas
  • Achilleas are the designer’s favourites for their many colours, drought tolerance and because they are great for pollinators

About the Garden

The Colour Box garden is a celebration of people helping people within the horticultural community. The designer simply set out to build a backdrop so that the plants could take centre stage. It is also full of colour – nothing muted here!

The garden is the result of asking for ‘help’ – the vision was to produce something beautiful, despite having no financial sponsorship, and shows what can be achieved with a small budget.

The team that has given time to this project has come together through the active and supportive horticultural Twitter community and represents a diverse group of people and trades.
