Inspired by the new Witan Investment Trust plc Global Growth Vegetable Garden project at RHS Garden Hyde Hall (opening spring 2017), this garden, designed by Jane Bailey, demonstrates the fabulous selection of edible plants from across the world, which can be grown in most parts of the UK. Some plants are familiar, but visitors may be surprised to find that most of the plants have an edible element (such as dahlias and hostas), while other plants are completely new and different.
Derived from the circular nature of the garden at Hyde Hall, the design is formed around a double helical path. At the centre of the garden is a beautiful sculpture by Paul Richardson. Witan is keen that the Global Growth Garden be welcoming and engaging. The variation in plants and colours reflects the diversity and specialisms of Witan.
The inclusion of edible plants and flowers links to Witan’s sponsorship of the Global Growth Vegetable Garden while the allusion to mature trees reflects Witan’s heritage, experience and authority, having been around since 1909.
