Japanese Summer Garden

Summer Gardens

This tranquil landscape pays homage to traditional hydrangea temple gardens, which typify summer scenery of Japan. In this garden, lush bamboos and textural moss provide the backdrop to plantings of deep blue hydrangeas. The whole is a scene of subtle contrasts in which the shadows cast by the bamboo enhance the vivid blue of the hydrangeas.

Three important philosophies in Japanese garden design are represented here – ‘Simplicity’, ‘The Beauty of Shadow’ and ‘Asymmetry’.A special technique for Japanese gardens is used, which is obscuring a view to excite visitor’s curiosity by using the translucent bamboo fences and the bamboos placed sporadically. The garden also invites people to understand how damp and shady areas of a garden can be transformed into beautiful spaces by careful planting.

Unique Japan Tours arrange tailor made, group, and self-guided tours around Japan. Trips vary from independent style to fully escorted groups. Japanese Garden Tours, featuring Ikebana workshops for those interested, take place from May until November each year. Japan is packed with places to go and things to see which this tour manages to capture most of, while stopping at some of the country’s top gardens along the way.
